Republic Day of India 2020: Amazing facts

The Republic Day of India is celebrated on January, 26th every year. This is one of the biggest festivals of India. Like Independence Day, this is also our national festival. This year i.e. in 2020 India is celebrating its 71st Republic Day. In this article we are going to discuss about some important facts about Republic Day of India.

1. The Chief guest:

On 26 January 2020, The President of Brazil, Mr. Jair Bolsonaro will be the chief guest in republic Day ceremony. This is third time when Brazilian President will join this event. First time President Fernando Henrique Cardoso in 1996 and second time President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in 2004 has joined this event as chief guest.

2. Why we celebrate Republic Day:

On 26 January 1950 the Indian Constitution came into effect throughout the country after completion. The fact is that the constitution is already completed on 26 November 1949, but the date so chosen because first time on 26 January 1930 congress declared Purna Swarajya (Complete Independence) as their aim and celebrated independence day on this date.

 3. The Republic Day celebrations:

The celebration takes place in New Delhi at the Rajpath. Hon’ble President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind address to the nation on the eve of 71st Republic Day of India. The flag hoisting takes place at 9:00 AM followed by National anthem. Ministry of Defence organise parade before President. Different ministry and states represent tableaux.

4. Tableau:

During events different departments, ministry and states represents their art, heritage and culture with the help of tableau. Ministry of Defence select the tableau according to some guideline. In 2019 ‘Tripura’ got the best tableaux award. Lets see which state will win this year.

5. Elephant ride:

During parade National bravery awards winner children ride on the elephants. This is one of the most beautiful scene during the event.

6. Award ceremony:

On the evening of Republic Day, President distributes award such as Padma Vibhusan, Padma Bhusan and Padmashree. You can find the details about these awards by clicking here.

7. Beating Retreat:

This is the official closing ceremony of republic Day celebration. It takes place in the evening on 29 January, every year.
